W- Two Worlds

September 14, 2016

He knew she was ‘the key to his life’ from the moment he laid eyes on her. What she thought was a dream turned out to be reality and then there was no stopping her from getting to know him better!
You’ve seen a thrilling medical drama followed by the heartbreaking love story in 2k16’s most popular melodrama, and if this wasn’t enough K-Drama brings you a whole new concept that is bound to get you hooked in Lee Jong Suk’s ‘W-The Two Worlds’.

I always look forward to Jong Suk's dramas firstly cause I find him majorly cute ^_^ and secondly he is an amazing actor and always manages to captivate his audience W-The Two Worlds represents two worlds that exist; one being the real world and the other being the one inside the famous webtoon ‘W’ that is created by Oh Seong Moo. For all those who don’t know what a webtoon is, it’s basically a comic that is uploaded online one chapter at a time (One chapter per week).

‘W’ became popular in Korea with millions of readers rooting for its main character Kang Chul (Lee Jong Suk) who was on a quest for revenge and finding out the truth behind the murder of his family that occurred during his peak moment as a shooter. Wrongfully accused for the crime and lack of evidence found at the scene, Kang Chul ends up in prison, but is fully determined to catch the real man behind this crime once he was out.
He is now JN Global’s co-president and also owner of the broadcasting channel ‘W’ which helps the common people to fight the bad guys and put them behind bars. He is also seen with two of his closest friends, his secretary- Yoon So-Hee (Jung Yoo-Jin) and his bodyguard/right hand man- Seo Do-Yoon (Lee Tae-Hwan). So Hee has a thing for him and they were supposed to end up together in the series but things take an unexpected turn once a new character comes to play.

Back in the real world you have Oh Yeon Jo (Han Hyo-Joo) who is a second year resident at Thoracic Surgery. She spends half her time in the hospital and gets bullied by her boss often. Not many people know that she is the daughter of the Oh Soong Mo, the creator of W.
People around Yeon Joo- So Bong (disciple of Soong Mo) and her father Oh Soong Mo

Once her boss, a major fan of W, comes to know of this he asks her to give him hints about the possible ending for W. She finds her way into her dad’s office only to realize that the chapter in progress ends with the shocking death of Kang Chul. As if her life wasn’t complicated enough, an unexpected turn of events finds herself face to face with Kang Chul in his final moments…
Interesting enough? Now, I won’t be revealing more on the plot as you’ve gotta tune into the series to find out yourself. But you get the basic idea that Yeon Jo gets sucked into the webtoon and of course being a doctor she saves Kang Chul. Having the ability to cross both worlds at will, Kang Chul is curious to know more about this mystery woman who keeps appearing at the right moment to save his life.

W is packed with action, thriller, suspense and romance that is bound to keep the viewers hooked to their seats. The end of each episode leaves you in suspense and lets your imagination run wild. The entire concept that is adopted is very attractive to the present generation as it gives a whole new perspective to K-Dramas. The last time I saw something different from the usual high school or romances dramas was perhaps ‘The Healer’. It aired alongside ‘Uncontrollably Fond’ and certainly lived up to the viewer’s expectation as it was the complete opposite in comparison to its counterpart.

This is Han Hyo-Joo’s appearance after a long gap and it’s certainly the right drama for her comeback. She and Lee make a really cute couple and the series showcases a lot of cute moments. I was upset when the series came to an end but it’s definitely a must-watch of 2k16. I would rate it an 8.5/10

That's all for the month of September folks, as far the K-reviews are concerned. I’ll be back in October with ‘Cinderella and the Four Knights’ and ‘Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo’ respectively. Stay tuned ^_^
