A trip to North East

January 16, 2018

The trip to the North East was the highlight of my December diaries. So picking up from where I left off during my last blog.
Soon after landing in Calcutta and relaxing a bit, the next day was my flight to Guwahati followed by a lovely drive to the beautiful city of Shillong.  Due to it being the festive season, the city was lit up with people bustling all over. Due to certain circumstances, I couldn’t stay in Shillong hence all I had was an evening where I explored the market place and did a little shopping. While driving from Guwahati to Shillong, made a stop at Lake Umiam.
I love to be in places that is bright and lit up with colors and such, and I found shillong a perfect place to spend my evening although I would have loved to stay and explore the city even longer

Said bye to the pretty city and drove down to the next destination- Cherrapunjee. Cherrapunjee enjoys the distinction of being the second place in the world that experiences heavy rainfall. After resting overnight, I was all set for the activities that would come my way. One the first day, I visited the seven sister waterfall and then made by way to the living root bridge and Mawlynong.

Mawlynong is said to be Asia’s most cleanest village and it indeed lives up to its name. A small knit community resides within it and they have everything right from a school to a church to their mini farms and more. It was a pleasure walking through the village which was picturesque. Take a look at how beautiful the place is in the photos below

We drove down to Dauki that evening. A beautiful river at the Indo-Bangladesh border

Definitely thought it was worth a mention, but on the way back stopped at Café Cherrapunjee for dinner. It was huge and beautifully decorated with lights all over. The interiors were amazing with a warm fireplace, giving a whole Christmas-y vibe. Although they took more than an hour to give me food -_-

If I thought day 1 was tiring, I had no idea what was coming for me next. Day 2 was trekking day to the double decker living root bridge followed by rainbow falls. A trek which began at 8:30 ended at 6. Have never walked for 9 and a half hours in my life before. I covered almost 15-16k steps. I happily began the trek by walking down as fast as I can but I had a tough time climbing them all back up ^_^

At every turn you think that you’ve reached but all you could see are more steps. More steps and very flimsy thin bridges. But it was quiet at adventure

Finally arrived at the first destination- The living root double decker bridge. Was too tired so I went and dipped by legs in the water

The next destination was the Rainbow waterfalls. After what seemed like hours and hours of walking and climbing up rocks we finally arrived. And let me tell know, it was worth every step and climb

The long day came to an end at 6 and all that was left to do was go back to the hotel room and flop. I was well aware that the next day my legs wouldn’t be mine anymore

Day 3 my legs felt like jelly and there was a trip to the caves planned. I literally cringed every time I saw a step and was hoping that the cave didn’t have many. Sadly, it did. Not a lot but even climbing up 20-30 was a task. Masmai Caves (in the photos below)

It was time to say bye to Cherrapunjee and the beautiful state of Meghalaya as it was time to drive back to Assam. The next stop was Kaziranga. Of course we went to the sanctuary where the famous one-horned rhino resides. Saw a rhino’s backside within 10 minutes of entering the place. Sadly I wasn't able to capture it on my phone

The last night in the East was spent in the Bhramaputra Cruise which was a fun filled evening with traditional folk dances, music and more

It was my first trip to the East and it was an amazing experience. I can’t wait to go back and see the rest of the states. That’s all as far as my travel diaries are concerned, will be writing soon. One always talks about visiting abroad when its the holiday season but our very own country has certain amazing destinations and exotic places that people need to go and explore more often.
That would be all for today, gonna be back soon with a few fashion posts ^_^
