Self Portraits

September 21, 2020

I honestly didn't know how to kill time during the quarantine. Saw a bunch of sitcoms and K-Dramas on Netflix, sketched after 3 years, did some art and craft, played puzzles and did the usual.I wanted to do something creative and that's when my uncle had told me that he had a DSLR.

One evening I went for a walk in my apartment and took a few photos of random things. Realized that I could connect the camera to my phone using an app and that's when I thought I'd give a shot at self portraits. Started out with something very simple and after a bunch of youtube tutorials I gradually got a hang of it.

Here are some of my self-portraits in the order that it was shot

1. The Self Portrait Starter Pack

Taking photos using a cloth. Very cliched, I know.

2. Then came the backdrop
Added a backdrop to get something very minimalistic

3. Through the Glass
Figured out that it was always easy to shoot simple photos so really wanted to go out of the box. Used a wine glass as a prop and was pretty happy about the outcome ^_^

4. Feeling Fruity
It's only a matter of time till one starts using fruits as props for their self portraits. Picked an orange thinking that it was easy to work with, but not as easy as it looks!!

5. Tangled
Took a really long time to set up this look. In fact, I had to re-shoot it cause I wasn't too happy with it the first time. Attached strings to the window on one end and tied it to the chair on the other end sat in between by placing a white background behind me

6. On A Rainy Day
Shot this by placing a glass tray in front of me and sprinkling some water on it

7. The Lockdown
Was roaming around the house looking for a prop to shoot with and decided to give a shot with the baking tray

8. The Set Up
Created this little set up using a curtain as a backdrop and some leaves

9. Mirror Mirror
This is one of my personal favorites and I absolutely loved shooting this look

10. Papercut
Shot this look but cutting out shapes on pastel sheets and placing it in front of the camera

Shot about 27 self portraits so far. Took a 3 month break in between but will be back soon with some killer concepts and ideas. Stay tuned! Feel free to let me know what you guys think in the comments section below

Until next time :)
